Triggering of Rain-Induced Landslides, with Applications in Southern Italy

چکیده

Landslides cause fatalities, widespread damages and economic losses. Quite frequently, they are triggered by rainfall. Many studies have investigated the relationships between rainfall characteristics landslide events. This paper reviews two main approaches, physical hydrological, for modelling such relationships. In approach, influence of on slope stability is commonly analysed in terms groundwater infiltration, pore pressure changes balance shear stresses resistances, therefore a considerable amount hydrogeological, morphological geotechnical data required. hydrological statistical-probabilistic study series dates occurrence movements instead carried out. Both types methods briefly presented, with examples from real applications to cases Southern Italy. particular, recent reactivations large rockslide Northern Calabria been modelled means approaches. addition, shallow landslides Calabria, Campania Sicily employing Strengths weaknesses adopted discussed, together causes that may hindered better results considered cases. For illustrated through application cases, research perspectives as well their possible use early warning systems.

Multi-stage Statistical Landslide Hazard Analysis: Rain-Induced Landslides

Recurrence of rain-induced landslides is controlled by the repetition of rain events. Therefore, rainfall induced landslide hazard analysis is more complicated than a conventional rainfall frequency analysis, and requires multi-stage procedures. It requires a susceptibility analysis to divide a region into successive classes at the first stage. Then, the relationship between the probability of ...

A prototype system to forecast rainfall induced landslides in Italy

We are designing a system to forecast rainfall-induced landslides in Italy. The system is based on a set of rainfall thresholds for the possible initiation of landslides, and an ensemble of small scale landslide hazard and risk zonations. Rainfall thresholds include existing and new, national, regional and local empirical thresholds of the intensity-duration (ID) and normalized-ID types. The ne...

Relationship between rainfall and shallow landslides in the southern Apuan Alps (Italy)

The Apuan Alps region is one of the rainiest areas in Italy (more than 3000 mm/year), in which frequently heavy and concentrated rainfall occurs. This is particularly due to its geographical position and conformation: the Apuan chain is located along the northern Tuscan coast, close to the Ligurian Sea, and the main peaks reach almost 2000 m. In several cases, the storms that hit the area have ...

Seismic Triggering Mechanisms of Large–scale Landslides, Valles Marineris

Large–scale landslides in Valles Marineris wallrock are analyzed in order to determine what triggering mechanisms caused the landslides. These landslides occur in the locality of large faults, and therefore it is hypothesized that the landslides are the result of marsquakes triggering slope instability. This work confirms that landslides occur where the seismic hazard map forecasts highest seis...

Rainfall triggering soil slips in the southern Apuan Alps (Tuscany, Italy)

The Apuan Alps are characterized by frequent heavy rainfall. In several cases this triggered many shallow landslides (soil slips). With the aim of contributing to the landslide hazard evaluation of the southern Apuan Alps (upper Versilian area), a detailed analysis of the main pluviometric events was carried out. Data recorded at the main raingauge of the area from 1975 to 2002 were analysed an...
